Sphericam 2 Achieves Kickstarter Goal

The Sphericam 2 Kickstarter campaign began on 30th June 2015, which VRFocus covered. Yesterday, only 6 days after the campaign launched, Sphericam 2 achieved its Kickstarter goal of $150,000 USD with the help of 174 backers.

Sphericam 2 is the new camera from Sphericam Inc which incorporates a series of six cameras in a system the size of a tennis ball. Sphericam 2 is, according to its makers, able to produce 360º video with global shutter capture at 60FPS and spherical vision with 4K resolution. Video can be automatically stitched together in real-time by the device at 30FPS whilst wi-fi and streaming options are also available.

You can watch the resulting videos on a virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display like Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear VR or Google Cardboard and also on your iPad, tablet, PC or mobile phone.

Now that the main goal has been reached with 22 days left to go, Sphericam Inc has updated the Kickstarter page to thank the backers of the project and to reveal that stretch goals are soon going to be announced.

Below is the latest video captured on a Sphericam 2 unit, showing the progress the company has already made with the project. VRFocus will be reporting the latest developments for the Sphericam 2 and its upcoming stretch goals.
