Regis University Creates VR Campus Tour

While many colleges and universities may still be trying to attract prospective pupils through their doors using conventional imagery and booklets, others are utilising modern virtual reality (VR) technology to create immersive campus tours. Regis University is one educational establishment doing just that.

The university in collaboration with independent agency Primacy has created a 360 degree immersive VR tour of the 100 acre campus,  including viewing daybreak runs at Red Rocks, being immersed in Regis’ experiential nursing skills lab and visiting the campus pub to watch a live Jenga game.

Sarah Engel, director of admissions at Regis University said in a statement: “Technology is a driver in every industry, and higher education is no exception. We are constantly seeking out new tools to help us tell the Regis story and stay relevant in the digital age. This past year, we positioned ourselves to enroll the largest freshman class in Regis history with ambitious, purposeful recruitment techniques. With the addition of technologies like the Oculus Rift, we hope to drive that innovation further.”

Primacy used 3D printed camera rigs that held between 6 – 10 GoPro Hero4 cameras to capture the footage from around the campus before synchronising and stitching the footage together, so that students can view the recorded footage via an Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD). Any students interested in trying Regis University’s VR Tour will be able to at a number of college fairs taking place though-out the U.S. from September.

VRFocus will continue to report on all the latest news regarding VR as its announced.
