Emmy Awarded to Sleepy Hollow VR Experience for Oculus Rift

Within the videogame industry virtual reality (VR) titles have already been successful in winning awards, but for the first time a VR experience has now won an EmmyThe Sleepy Hollow Virtual Reality Experience which was developed by Secret Location and produced by Fox, won in the awards “Interactive Media, User Experience and Visual Design” category, reports Engadget.

Released on Oculus Share back in August 2014, The Sleepy Hollow Virtual Reality Experience was originally developed as part of a Comic Con San Diego 2014 installation, where viewers are transported to the town cemetery of Sleepy Hollow to have their own nerve-wracking experience. With an appearance from show lead Tom Mison, as Ichabod Crane, and a number of other nods to the series from both past and future seasons, the experience is an authentic and immersive way to explore the show universe.

Due to The Sleepy Hollow Virtual Reality Experience being released back in 2014 (which is a while ago in VR terms) it will only support Oculus’ software development kit (SDK) prior to the 0.6.0 version. Many may have already upgraded to the SDK 0.7 which was recently released for the Oculus Rift.

VRFocus previously covered The Sleepy Hollow Virtual Reality Experience, and it’s welcoming to see that even in the early stages of VR, the technology is being recognised by mainstream outlets. VRFocus will continue to follow all the latest news and announcements on VR and report back.
