Orchestra VR now available for Samsung Gear VR

VRFocus reported last week that the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra (LA Phil) wanted to something special and unique for the Immortal Beethoven festival which started last Friday. So the LA Phil created the VAN Beethoven experience, a truck which would travel around LA so people could enjoy the orchestra in virtual reality (VR). Alongside this they have also launched Orchestra VR, an app for the Samsung Gear VR head-mounted display (HMD).

Through the Orchestra VR app and Gear VR, viewers will be transported to the stage of LA’s stainless steel-clad Walt Disney Concert Hall for a 360 degree performance by the LA Phil, conducted by music and artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel. The app allows viewers to enjoy the opening sequence of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony in full VR, with some added surprises.

Dudamel said in a statement: “Music is a beautiful symbol of unity, and it is very important to share the joy of music with people from all walks of life and from the many different communities in Los Angeles and beyond. I have often said music is a fundamental human right, and using this technology helps us to make this mission even stronger.”

Orchestra VR is free to download, and the VAN Beethoven experience truck which features the Oculus Rift HMD will continue its tour until 18th October 2015. VRFocus will continue to follow all the latest news and announcements regarding VR and report back.
