Environment Recreation of Half Life 2 in UE4 to Receive Oculus Rift Compatibility

Popular with videogames enthusiasts is the re-creation of old titles with newer technology. A fan project that was posted on Polycount’s forum by 3D artist Liam Tart has recreated Apartment 17 out of Half Life 2’s environments in Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4. The artist has now revealed he wants to add virtual reality (VR) support by way of the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD), when the project is released publicly.

Reported by WCCFTech, Tart who has previously worked on Alien Isolation has stated: “Just so you know, I do plan to release this scene online for people to play around with. I’m not going to release it just yet, as I would really like to get it working with Oculus Rift before I do. So you can run around with virtual reality. Not entirely sure if its going to work, but I’ll give it a good go!”

Tart hasn’t revealed how far along the project is in terms of a full public release, but several of the detailed screenshots can be seen below. VRFocus will continue to follow any further announcements from the artist regarding a release date and any further projects that may involve VR.
