John Wick: The VR Experience Built with Unreal Engine 4

Earlier this week VRFocus got hands-on with the first preview build of WEVR’s John Wick: The VR Experience, a brand new videogame title based on Lionsgate’s popular motion-picture franchise. Many readers have been enquiring about which engine is being used to develop the title and today VRFocus received confirmation that it is in fact Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4.

The preview build of John Wick: The VR Experience was short, but showcased a number of inventive gameplay opportunities built specifically for VR. VRFocus was certainly impressed with the title, stating in a preview: “John Wick: The VR Experience – Chapter 1 teases much more than it shows with incredible visual fidelity, and what it shows is a welcomingly original experience.”

The question of which engine has been used for the development of John Wick: The VR Experience arose due to the remarkable visual quality of the videogame. Despite the need to render each frame twice and the demands of maintaining a high framerate, John Wick: The VR Experience is easily on par with even the highest end of modern PC videogame visuals. Exactly what specification of PC hardware was running the preview build is not currently known.

John Wick: The VR Experience is a VR exclusive title expected to launch in early 2016. VRFocus will continue to follow the title, reporting back with any further information revealed.
