Following the announcement of a collaboration earlier this year, Starbreeze Studios has revealed new details on the forthcoming videogame based on Lionsgate’s John Wick motion-picture franchise. The currently untitled videogame will be a first-person shooter (FPS) experience designed specifically for virtual reality (VR), and is set to launch early next year.
It had previously been announced that WEVR, the company responsible for theBlu: Encounter, which was used to introduce the HTC Vive VR platform at the Game Developer’s Conference (GDC) earlier this year, will develop a fully immersive VR experience that will introduce the videogame. Grab will spearhead the development of the full videogame title while Starbreeze Studios will be publishing the product across multiple VR platforms.
The two titles will act as standalone experiences, it has been revealed. The companies will team to create an FPS videogame based on the world and characters of the John Wick films and centred around the infamous Continental Hotel, as well as a teaser videogame which will launch alongside the HTC Vive, available via SteamVR, later this year. This secondary experience is the component which will be available as part of the ongoing HTC Vive World Tour, which is currently making its way through the United States and Europe.
John Wick producer Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road Pictures and the movie’s production team will be collaborating closely with the WEVR and Grab teams for the development of the VR experience and videogame. The full videogame is expected to be available on most existing VR headsets in Spring 2016 and VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details.
