Google and Aardman Animations Release Special Delivery

The days are quickly ticking away until Christmas and more festive virtual reality (VR) experiences are popping up. Yesterday saw London based 3D imaging company IVR Nation release a VR Christmas card, and now tech giant Google has teamed up with UK-based studio Aardman Animations (of Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep fame) for, Special Delivery a new short interactive film.

The latest project created for Spotlight Stories, a mobile and VR-based video platform run by Google’s Advanced Technology And Projects (ATAP) group, Special Delivery follows the adventures of a humble caretaker, who is disturbed by a someone on the roof. What follows is a game of cat and mouse as he tries to apprehend the elusive stranger in a red hat.

Viewers can watch the chase take place through the various buildings and rooms around the courtyard, but that’s not all there is to see. Being a 360-degree video, while the main action is taking place there’re other activities happening, an old lady feeding pigeons suddenly becomes swarmed, a cat eyeing up a tasty little bird suddenly gets more than it bargained for, all while a resident plays the drums.

Special Delivery can be viewed via a compatible browser and controlled with a mouse or the WASD keys, it can also be viewed on a smartphone with the YouTube app for a better 360 degree experience. If you own a Google Cardboard or similar head-mounted display (HMD) you can view the video through the YouTube app for the full immersive experience.

VRFocus will continue to bring you any further festive VR experiences in the run up to Christmas.
