Manus VR Releases Teaser Footage of HTC Vive Experiments

Manus VR, formally known as Manus Machina has been building up interest recently for its virtual reality (VR) compatible, wireless, flexible, finger-sensing gloves. The company opened pre-orders last week, alongside Flexpoint Sensor Systems revealing the Dutch firm had placed more orders for its sensors. Now Manus VR has revealed some very short teaser footage of its experiments using the HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD).

The video below shows a Manus VR employee with a HTC Vive HMD, the company’s gloves and the headsets motion tracked controllers attached at the wrist. The controllers look to have been disassembled, with the top portion intact but the circuitry removed from inside the handle. The footage demonstrates via the monitor behind the tester, Manus VR’s glove movement combined with the arm movement from the HTC Vive’s Lighthouse tracking system.

In a Reddit post a user questions the placement of the tracking unit in relation to the wrist, to which Manus VR responds: “The backside of the hand has an IMU to track the wrist joint. But it is not yet used in this demo as it is still just an experiment.” Adding: “It makes more sense to track the wrist, since that allows you to track both the hand and the forearm with one tracker.”

Pricing and launch details have yet to be announced, as currently the pre-order page states: “We are currently not accepting payments, but will notify you two months before shipping.”

Manus VR will be attending the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in March and the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in June 2016. VRFocus will continue its coverage of the VR gloves, reporting back with any further announcements.

  1. I think this could be HTC’s very very big advancement they are teasing. Teaming up with the gloves and building in lighthouse tracking. Very exciting.
