Unreal Engine developer Epic Games regularly updates the videogame development engine, the last time being earlier this month with a 4.10.1 hotfix. Now the studio has announced the arrival of the first preview build, version 4.11 for early adopters who are well versed in experimenting with the software.
The preview build is found in the “Library” section of the Unreal Engine tab in the Epic Games launcher. There’re lots of new features and performance optimisations, with a full changelog of details available here.
VR updates in the preview are as follows:
- Instanced Stereo Rendering
- Head Mounted Display Camera Refactor
- Stereo Layers
- SDK Updates: Oculus SDK 1.0, SteamVR 1.0, PlayStationVR SDK3 Updates, and Gear VR LibOVRMobile 1.0
There’s also a list of high priority bugs in the preview with a VR specific one for the Samsung Gear VR: “UE-24715 Unplayable GearVR tracking sensitivity in First Person Template.” Which is why the developer does state on its blog: “Remember that these releases are not for production work, so we recommend waiting to upgrade your project until the production release is available next year.”
