It’s been a little while since we’ve had an update from FOVE, the upcoming virtual reality (VR) head-mounted displays (HMD) that features eye-tracking technology. Last year saw the company complete a successful Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign for the device, raising some $480,650 USD to help bring the product to market. Since then it’s also been confirmed that the kit will be incorporating the SteamVR system from Valve. Today, FOVE has revealed a first look at the latest prototype for the kit.
Below are two images that FOVE included in its monthly newsletter for the new kit. It’s not yet clear if there’s anything new specs-wise and the front of the device looks identical to previous version. The back, however, seems to have been changed somewhere, with new straps to fit the kit to the user’s head. The company noted that it will be testing this version of the kit out and making some adjustments to fix its final design in the future.
“Once again, we want to say thank you to all the backers! As you can see, Kickstarter was obviously the highlight of 2015, and we truly appreciate your support,” Project Manager Yamato noted. “2016 is going to be the year we can actually deliver FOVE to everyone. We are very excited for the journey ahead of us in the next 12 month!”
A final release date for the kit is yet to be set, though expect plenty more updates on FOVE to be delivered throughout 2016. For the latest news on the kit, keep reading VRFocus.
