Oculus Exclusive FPS Damaged Core Coming to GDC With ‘brand new build’

The 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) was a big week for Oculus VR and its Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD), as the company finally launched pre-orders for the device ahead of its 28th March 2016 release date. But, as with the rest of the videogame industry, the next big event is right around the corner as the 2016 Game Developers Conference (GDC) and adjoining Virtual Reality Developers Conference (VRDC) will be taking place from 14th – 18th March. The company’s plans for the show haven’t yet been revealed but one of its exclusive titles, Damaged Core, will be there with new content.

Eric Nofsinger, Chief Creative Officer at Damaged Core developer High Voltage Software, said as much to VRFocus at CES. The team will have a ‘brand new build’ at the show. Nofsinger also confirmed that the demo for the title previously seen at the likes of E3 2015 would not be a part of the final release and was simply a ‘proof of concept’ showing. This would suggest, then, that Damaged Core won’t be among the list of available games when the Oculus Rift launches just a few days after GDC, though this is just speculation on VRFocus‘ part. It’s not been confirmed if any other Oculus Rift exclusives will be on display at the show.

Announced back at Oculus VR’s pre-E3 2015 show, little is known about Damaged Core thus far, though High Voltage Software itself has plenty of experience in bringing the FPS genre to new technologies, having previously worked on The Conduit series for the Nintendo Wii. The title was revealed as part of a wide array of ‘Oculus Studios’ projects, which Oculus VR itself is funding and publishing. Other entries in this group include Insomniac Games with Edge of Nowhere and Gunfire Games with Chronos.
