Dimensional Passes Kickstarter Goal, New Stretch Goal Revealed

Earlier in the month VRFocus reported on the launch of a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign for a new virtual reality (VR) videogame named Dimensional. Developer Brett Jackson was looking for £1,000 GBP in order to bring this new experience to both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive PC-based head-mounted displays (HMDs). A few weeks into the campaign and Jackson has passed that goal with just enough time to also shoot for a brand new stretch goal.

Dimensional is described by its developer as a ‘first-person, puzzle-platformer’ in which players are tasked with saving an alien race. Exploring a series of chambers across 10 levels, players will encounter a number of challenges that they’ll need to overcome using the title’s navigation system, in which players walk around a real world environment that they themselves have marked out. They can then teleport around areas with that space coming with them.

Dimensional has reached it’s funding goal with 12 days still to go,” the developer wrote in a Kickstarter update. “Thank you to all my generous and supportive backers. When you’re playing the first official release on your Oculus Rift / DK2 or HTC Vive, please take a moment to stop and realise that the game wouldn’t exists without your support.

“Virtual Reality is going to be a niche industry for a little while yet. Standing, physically active gameplay is a niche within that. It was always a gamble whether people would be interested in the techniques I’m experimenting with. It means so much to me that I now have the opportunity to fully explore my ideas and see them released in a complete game.”

As for the stretch goal, Jackson notes that for £1,500 he’ll litter the project with easter eggs for fans.

Dimensional is expected to launch in May 2016. Stay tuned to VRFocus for any more updates on the project.
