HTC Vive Manual Reveals USB Port for Device Connection

There’s still a lot to learn about the HTC Vive, even if the anticipated virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) is just a few months away from launching. Unlike the Oculus Rift, creators HTC and Valve haven’t publically sold the kit’s development version, instead distributing it to studios that apply for one. As such VR fans are only just learning about some of the latest development kit’s new features as a new manual for it has been posted online.

According to one page of the manual, the new kit – named the Vive Pre – includes a USB 3.0 port in its compartment area. The instructions, revealed by Reddit user godelbrot, specifically state that users can connect third-party devices to the HMD this way, though doesn’t give any examples of what this could be.

The HTC Vive will be launching sometime in April 2016, with pre-orders expected to open on 29th February. A look at the final, consumer-ready version of the device hasn’t yet been revealed, nor has information such as pricing, though Valve has said that fans should see this before pre-orders go live. The kit will arrive a month after the launch of the Oculus Rift, which is seen as its main rival.
