SUPERHOT Teases ‘grand’ VR Plans

This week finally marked the launch of SUPERHOT, a long-anticipated first-person shooter (FPS) that ran a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign all the way back in 2014, raising some $250,798 USD in the process. The title can currently be picked up on Steam for £16.19 GBP. The version available now doesn’t support virtual reality (VR) technology, but it’s been known since the Kickstarter campaign that such support is coming. The developer behind the project recently teased that it was working on something big for VR and, this week, it has offered another such tease.


Talking about future updates in a new Kickstarter post, the developer wrote: “We have more in store for you. Expect content updates in the future. And since you’re all such wonderful people, we’ll keep those content updates free of charge.”

“Also in the meantime we are constantly working on the XBox One version of SUPERHOT and doing secretive work on a bunch of grand VR plans. We can’t tell you too much but SUPERHOT in VR is going to be fun, oooh so much fun…”

SUPERHOT has already been seen running on the Oculus Rift’s second development kit (DK2) on multiple occasions, so what exactly could be so secretive about the team’s plans? Could the developer be working to upgrade that support to feature Room Scale tracking as seen in the HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD)? It would certainly be an intriguing addition to the title’s central mechanic, in which time moves only when the player does, allowing them to essentially pause an action scene, negotiate a path through incoming fire and take out each enemy in a room.
