UPDATED: Where to Get a Free Gear VR with Galaxy S7 in UK

Samsung is making a big push for its Gear VR mobile-based virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) with its latest smartphones, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. At the handset’s announcement in Barcelona, Spain yesterday the company revealed that the first people to pre-order them would be getting a free Gear VR unit as well as early access to the phones themselves, arriving three days earlier than the usual release date. Not every retailer is offering this deal, however, though the UK companies that are taking part have now been revealed.

Consumer Gear VR 1

Both the Carphone Warehouse and Vodafone are offering the Gear VR for free with Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge pre-orders. Those that do take advantage of the offer will also get the kit on 5th March 2016 instead of the usual release on 8th March. The standard kit has a price tag of £569 GBP while its curved companion costs some £639. Interestingly enough, the official Samsung UK isn’t taking part in the deal, instead charging the usual £79.99 in order to include the kit as an add-on.

Of course, if you want to get a Gear VR, you don’t necessarily need to pick up the Galaxy S7. The consumer kit works with all of Samsung’s 2015 smartphones, which includes the likes of the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and Galaxy Note 5.

UPDATE: Samsung UK is now offering a free Gear VR through its website. All orders before 10th March 2016 will get a unit.

  1. I asked the support of the Samsung UK website about the free gear VR and just got that answer:

“We would like to confirm that all pre-orders placed on Samsung UK Online Shop are eligible to receive the free Gear VR Lite headset.”

So even though slightly hidden, seems like you will get a Gear Vr with a Preorder from the Samsung UK Website.
On the website itself there is a small note saying:
“Free VR on all pre-orders before midnight March 10th”

    1. They have told me that it’s one per household not one per s7 ,which is a load of rubbish I’ve bought his and hers and now have to share !!!!!! Even thou the web site states for each s7

  2. Samsung arent exactly pushing to hard in the UK. Out of all of the Mobile Phone Providers, only Vodafone are offering the free VR? Whats with that? If they are free with the phone then why would all of these other providers turn that down. Why can Samsung not offer a claim for the free VR to all of those pre-orderers that are being screwed by upgrading/contracting with ALL of these other providers!!

  3. Samsun lied on this. They announced a free vr to everyone who pre orders in the usa and europe. Not selected retailers. I ordered through ee, and have been told i will not get one. Scam.com.

  4. Ordered via carphone warehouse on the 8th, received today 10th, no headset. Only apply to NEW contracts not upgrades. Refund obtained. Not happy.

  5. is there a place on samsung website to register for the VR Gear or at least we can all get together and complain
    its not ok?

  6. I have pre ordered the s7 edge on the 9th of march and received the phone without the vr device. I have called samsung and they said is out of stock and no longer offering the vr. I will probably cancel the contract and send the phone back. Samsung is a big liars company.

    1. I have contacted samsung again and they will send me a vr device, so i,m waiting. I will come back when will be delivered

  7. My S7 edge arrived today ordered on the morning of the 9th of March with no Gear VR . Very disappointed. After 20 minutes of trying to get through to them to be told they had run out of stock. There was no warning of this when I ordered. My phone will be going back for a refund. I will never use Samsung again.
