NVIDIA has today released a new driver to assist early adopters of the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive virtual reality (VR) head-mounted displays (HMDs). Simply known as ‘version 364.72’, the driver is compatible with NVIDIA GeForce GTX GPUs and available to download for free now.
“We treat VR and VR games the same way we treat other games. We realize the day-0 gaming experience is critical – not just performance, but stability, no issues, etc.,” stated Bryan Del Rizzo, Senior PR Manager, GeForce Business Unit at NVIDIA Corporation, while discussing the driver release with VRFocus. “Over the last couple of years, we’ve had proven execution of supporting every AAA title on day-0 (not days or weeks later). The same philosophy applies to VR games and experiences.
“One could argue this is even more critical for VR titles as you don’t want to break the immersion factor or drop below 90fps.”
The new driver is available to download directly from NVIDIA on the company’s official website. VRFocus has plenty of Oculus Rift and HTC Vivelaunch coverage coming up, so there’ll be plenty to entertain early adopters while undergoing the download and installation process for this driver ahead of getting their own Oculus Rift up-and-running.
