Overload Dev Launches Playable Teaser

Last month indie developer Revival Productions launched a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign to create Overload, a spiritual successor to 90’s 6 degrees-of-freedom (6-DOF) shooter Descent. In the campaigns latest update the developer has now released a free playable teaser on Steam, looking to possibly garner more support for the project.

The playable Overload teaser had already been made available to backers of the Kickstarter, but now its open for anyone to play via Windows PC. The demo consists of three levels from Overload including a “destroy the reactor” level and a challenge mode. There’re eight weapon types to try and three enemy robot designs to fight, giving players an idea of what to expect from the videogame.

Currently the funding campaign only has three days to go, finishing on Friday 11th, March. Funding so far has reached just over the halfway mark, hitting $179,668 USD out of a total of $300,000 USD. The public availability of the playable teaser is likely to draw in new backers, but will it be enough to hit the funding goal? Along with the demo a video for the reactor level can be seen below.

Revival Productions is aiming for a 15 level single-player campaign with 12 upgradeable weapons, and 5 levels of difficulty for Overload. A multiplayer feature is planned, but it won’t be available at the expected launch date of March 2017, coming several months later.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of Overload, reporting back on any further updates.
