SXSW Orange Sunshine Premiere to Feature VR Experience Origins

Next week looks to be a busy one for virtual reality (VR) content. Not only is the Game Developers Conference (GDC) taking place, but there’s the SXSW Film Conference and Festival which features its own VR and augmented reality (AR) track. Premiering at SXSW will be a documentary feature film called Orange Sunshine, and the filmmakers have created an accompanying VR experience, Origins.

Orange Sunshine tells the true story of the Brotherhood of Eternal Love, a group of Southern Californian surfers and hippies who became the largest suppliers of psychedelic drugs in the world during the 1960s and 1970s and sought to change the world through LSD. As part of the 14th March premiere, Origins will be shown in the theatre lobby for visitors to get a deeper understanding of the narrative behind the story.

Then from 16th – 18th March, Origins will also be part of the Virtual Cinema installation, at the Hilton Austin Downtown on the HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD).

The SXSW Film Conference and Festival began life in 1987, and is held every year in Austin, Texas. The event is split into three genres, Film, Music and Interactive, with the film and interactive events being introduced in 1994. As part of the interactive showcase a brand new VR/AR track has been introduced to compliment the rising growth in this industry.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of SXSW, reporting back with any further announcements.
