Unreal Engine Fixes PSVR Bug in New Preview for Update 4.11

Oculus Mobile SDK updates also included.

Epic Games is currently racing towards a full release of the latest version of its videogame development engine, Unreal Engine 4.11. Part of that process has been launching various preview versions for developers to get to grips with, with each new release bringing in more fixes. This week the company has released Preview 8 for the update, which includes a few updates for virtual reality (VR) head-mounted displays (HMDs).

Firstly, it appears that Preview 8 includes support for the 1.0 version of the Oculus Mobile software development kit (SDK), though support for the PC SDK still remains at 0.8. Elsewhere, there’s a fix for Unreal Engine 4 titles running on the PlayStation VR HMD for PlayStation 4, where some titles have been ‘mispredicting’. Other fixes include addressing problems with players spawning inside of flaws, launch crashes on mobile platforms and many, many more.

Expect plenty more progress on the VR front from Unreal Engine 4 in the near future, especially with the revealed of its VR Editor, which will allow users to edit virtual spaces from within a HMD. Both of the engine’s main rivals, Unity and CryEngine, are also preparing their own solutions for in-VR editing too.
