Life In 360°: 360fly Teams Up for New York Students 360 Degree Film Contest

360 degree filming will be a part of the future , Drury Design and 360fly look to challenge students to meet that future head-on.

Today’s Life in 360 isn’t actually a video but news about a competition using 360 degree video technology in order to challenge young students to create fully immersive videos. A first according to those involved.

360fly, who have featured on VRFocus many times at this point, have teamed up with Drury Design on the contest which will be for New York University (NYU) students and members of the Rhode Island School of Design. Commencing tomorrow and with entries being accepted until 3rd May 2016, the hope is that the use of the 360 degree camera technology will not only challenge them but be a conduit to producing some truly new and original content.

360fly and Livit

Comprising three categories: Narrative, Documentary and Experimental, films will feature as part of showcase during NYC’s design week as well as being uploaded to be a part of Drury Design’s YouTube channel. Winners receive prizes of $500 (USD) and 360fly’s latest 4K camera, whilst they will be using a 360fly HD camera for the contest itself. Novices not familiar with using 360 degree cameras can also receive a tutorial tomorrow on NYU’s campus from a 360fly representative.

The ability to use 360 degree video will become far greater in the future, as Director of Drury Design’s Creative Lab, Evan Polivy, explained.

“Virtual reality represents the next chapter in the evolution of storytelling, and giving these young open minds the chance to explore it can go far in unearthing new ways to utilize it that haven’t even been anticipated. This is very much unexplored creative terrain, which is why we’re so excited about where the creative minds of these talented students will go when utilizing this immersive format enabled by the 360fly cameras.”

Interested parties should speak to their course representatives for more information.
