The use of virtual reality (VR) video can get fans on the same level as their biggest idols, and Jaunt now gets on a personal level with the former Beatle producing a six-part virtual reality (VR) documentary series, PURE McCartney VR, and today the first two episodes have been released.
Filmed in McCartney’s private home studio, the series of shorts will recount his personal memories and stories linked to some of his most famous songs, as well as featuring never-before-seen footage that has been archived. Directed by Tony Kaye, which is his first venture into VR after producing music videos as well as feature film American History X, the documentary series boasts a fully immersive VR experience including spacially oriented ambisonic audio mixed by Dolby Atmos.
Cliff Plumer, President of Jaunt Studios, said in a press release: “With virtual reality, Paul McCartney is taking the most innovative step yet; he’s connecting directly with his fans, to share his innermost thoughts and experiences, in an entirely new, personal and immersive way.”
The documentary shorts will include Dance Tonight, Coming Up, My Valentine, Mull of Kintyre, and Early Days, and is presented by VisitBritain and the GREAT Britain Home of Amazing Moments campaign.
“It is an honor to be part of such a tremendously talented team of artists, tasked with documenting the thinking of this great man, in order to bring his fans a new means of experiencing some of his greatest songs,” said Tony Kaye, director for PURE McCartney VR. “His musical genius is now on display for the world in an entirely new light.”
The PURE McCartney VR series will be available on the Jaunt VR App with each track released on the Paul McCartney world, and it will be available on iOS, Android, Samsung Gear VR, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Desktop 360.
