Life In 360°: Back To Earth With Space X

Watch the main stage of a launched Falcon 9 rocket come into land on a barge at sea.

We ended last week on Life In 360° with a trip into space and a look around the surface of Mars, courtesy of NASA and the Curiosity Rover. Today however we’re doing almost the reverse, a 360 degree video of something returning from space – or to be more precise the upper atmosphere.

Several weeks ago you may recall seeing reports that Space X, the aerospace company headed by Elon Musk, had at last succeeded in landing the main/first stage of a launched Falcon 9 rocket onto the droneship ‘Of Course I Still Love You’ that was at sea. Whilst other companies had previously landed and reused rockets it was still seen as a major breakthrough and one that will, hopefully continue the move towards not only commercial spaceflight but the reduction in costs to resupply things like the International Space Station and similar space projects. Whilst footage was quick to be released, it took a little while for this video to see the light of day – a 360 degree view from the barge of the rocket coming into land.

It’s quite the sight and you can see it below. To help you locate it, the rocket is visible from the beginning; just look straight upwards and you will see an orange dot amongst the spots of clouds that will get bigger.
