NVIDIA’s Ansel allows for 360 degree in-game image capture.

NVIDIA has today announced a new in-game camera system called Ansel, a technology designed to aid the progression of videogame photography. Ansel includes a number of features for players to adjust the effects of their captured images, but the most unexpected of these is full 360 degree stereoscopic image capture.

A free-roaming camera system, Ansel is offered by NVIDIA as an SDK that is built into their graphics technology at the driver level. Ansel includes filters, resolution adjustment and much more besides, however it’s the 360 degree stereoscopic image capture that is most interesting for virtual reality (VR). The images captured can be put out in multiple formats, including adapted for viewing on mobile VR head-mounted displays such as Google Cardboard.
