VINEXPO Hong Kong 2016 to Feature VR Tour of New Zealand’s Vineyards

New Zealand has partnered with Samsung for a promotional video showcasing the country’s vineyards.

Taking a tour of far flung corners of the world no longer means having to go there or watching on a flat monitor. With the advent of virtual reality (VR), companies are using the immersive technology to transport viewers to exotic locations or see areas of the world that are normally inaccessible to the public. Being shown at the VINEXPO Hong Kong 2016 this week is a 360-degree experience that transports visitors into New Zealand vineyards.

The New Zealand Wine Pavilion with be hosting the immersive experience at the expo, which was created in partnership between Samsung Electronics and the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE). Supporting Samsung’s mobile VR head-mounted display (HMD) Gear VR, the footage was first shown at Food Hotel Asia 2016 before heading to VINEXPO Hong Kong.

“Working with the New Zealand government has given us access to great content that we can bring to our consumers. This collaboration is a great example of how we are bringing the endless possibilities of virtual reality to life for consumers and elevating their mobile experience,” said Yvonne Chng, Head, Consumer Marketing, IT & Mobile Business, Samsung Electronics Singapore. “New Zealand has the luxury of being a bit of a start-up country. We like out of the box thinking and testing small scale. Going forward we’re looking to work with creative partners in both New Zealand and Asia to take virtual reality to the next level.”

Its unclear if the promotional piece will be shown at other events outside of Asia, or see an eventual public release on the Gear VR.

VRFocus will continue its global news coverage, reporting back with the latest VR announcements.
