12 More Universities Join Crytek’s VR First Initiative

Crytek continues the expansion of VR First.

German developer Crytek has announced today that twelve more universities have signed up for the company’s VR First initiative, helping to nurture virtual reality (VR) with dedicated learning facilities.

With these new additions VR First now formed partnerships with 26 universities since launching in January this year. Each VR First partner institution will initiate a VR First Lab on their campus, giving students access to the latest VR development tools and guidance from a network of business and technology leaders.

The full list of new academic partners includes: Dania Academy of Higher Education (Denmark); Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (Germany); Doña Ana Community College (USA); Hamburg University (Germany); Heidelberg University (Germany); HTW Berlin – University of Applied Sciences (Germany); International School Of Design – Rubika (France); Middle East Technical University (Turkey); NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands); Sogang University (South Korea); State University of New York at Oswego (USA); VIGAMUS Academy (Italy).

The twelve new universities have helped to expand the initiative’s presence to Asia for the first time, as well as signaling VR First’s arrival in five more countries.

Last month Crytek revealed a survey of 201 universities that had applied for the program since launch. Of those surveyed, 88 percent of institutions are either planning or have already begun offering VR focused courses.

The VR First initiative has been designed to provide state-of-the-art facilities to any institutions that wish to explore the power and potential of VR development. It encourages educational institutions around the world to establish dedicated VR labs on their campuses by partnering with Crytek, giving full access to Crytek’s CRYENGINE software alongside the latest technology required for VR development.

As Crytek further expands VR First, VRFocus will bring you the latest announcements.
