Rage of the Gargoyles Brings the Fright Factor to the Kong Rollercoaster

Six Flags adds Gear VR to another coaster.

If you went to a theme park over the summer there’s a good chance you might have come across a virtual reality (VR) ride or rollercoaster. In the UK Alton Towers has Galactica using Samsung Gear VR, while Thorpe Park now has Derren Brown’s Ghost Train which uses HTC Vive’s. It’s the same in the US as Six Flags Entertainment Corporation has added several VR experiences to its rollercoaster’s in several parks. The company will now be adding a new one for this Halloweens Fright Fest season called Rage of the Gargoyles.

Rage of the Gargoyles will feature at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom San Francisco/Sacramento, California, on the steel suspended looping coaster Kong. Any rider who’s 13 or over will get the option to wear a Samsung Gear VR head-mounted display (HMD).

With the headset on riders will find themselves sat inside an Apache attack helicopter as it flies through a crumbling destroyed cityscape. That’s not all as visitors will be terrorised by evil monsters at the same time which can be shot at adding a further immersive element to the rollercoaster.

Kong rises to 115 feet before dropping riders down 108 feet at 55 mph as their feet dangle in the air for just over 2 minutes.

As more VR attractions are announced VRFocus will bring you the latest.
