Back in July the TIGA Games Industry Awards opened registrations for entries into its fifth event, with this year holding the possibility that a virtual reality (VR) title could feature. There are 35 award categories and the finalists have now been revealed, with five VR experiences making the cut.
The five videogames that have been chosen are nDreams’ The Assembly, Tammeka Games’ Radial-G: Racing Revolved, Cloudhead Games’ The Gallery – Episode 1: Call of the Starseed, Triangular Pixels’ Unseen Diplomacy and Mechabit’s Pierhead Arcade.
nDreams’ puzzle exploration title The Assembly picks up the most nominations, being included in Best Creative Gameplay, Debut Game and Most Original Game. The studio itself also nabbed a nomination in the Best Independent Studio Large category, which also includes Rebellion (Battlezone) and Supermassive Games (Until Dawn: Rush of Blood).
Tammeka Games’ Radial-G: Racing Revolved received its nomination in the Best Racing Game category, while both Cloudhead Games’ The Gallery – Episode 1: Call of the Starseed and Triangular Pixels’ Unseen Diplomacy were included in Debut Game. Mechabit’s Pierhead Arcade made it into Best Game By A Small Studio.
Also of note is SigTrap Games’ Sublevel Zero. While not natively a VR title, the videogame does support Oculus Rift and HTC Vive and its been included in Best Action and Adventure Game; Best Arcade Game; Audio Design; Best Creative Gameplay and Debut Game.
Dr Richard Wilson, TIGA CEO, commented: “I would like to thank everyone who has entered and supported the 2016 TIGA Games Industry Awards and congratulations to all those who have been shortlisted. It has been so inspiring to see so many excellent games and successful games businesses, as well as the many world class educational institutions achieving terrific results.”
The winners will be revealed in a ceremony in London, UK on 10th November 2016, and VRFocus will bring you the announcement.
