Cyan Confirms PlayStation VR, HTC Vive and Oculus Touch Versions of Obduction

The title will be released for the other VR platforms in 2017.

Last week Cyan Inc., – the studio behind 90’s classics Myst and Riven – launched its next title Obduction for Oculus Rift having seen a PC release back in August. Most recently the developer has confirmed continued virtual reality (VR) support for the videogame with plans to bring the title to PlayStation VR, HTC Vive and expand compatibility to Oculus Touch.

In an interview with Gamesbeat, Rand Miller, CEO of Cyan said: “We’re going all-in on VR.

“Cyan has a history of creating meticulously crafted immersive worlds. VR feels like the ultimate medium for magically transporting players to new places. We’re opening up the Obduction virtual reality experience to more platforms and going all in for the VR future. We have some optimization to do for the PS4, but it is surprisingly capable as a platform.”

The release on PlayStation 4 and subsequently PlayStation VR will be the first console release for Obduction, with Cyan looking to capture some of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) 40 million + user base. “And the PlayStation breaks open our availability as a much broader platform for us. I [was] amazed at how good this looks on a console,” said Miller.

“We have gotten Obduction into a position where it is doing pretty good on the PC side and can do pretty good on the PS4. It also feels like we are getting in on the VR at a time when it’s just perfect.”

Cyan originally started Obduction back in 2013 as a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign looking to raise $1,100,000 USD. The Kickstarter was hugely successful raising just over $1,300,000 and hitting the stretch goal of VR support for the Oculus Rift.

Obduction is slated to arrive for PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR and HTC Vive sometime next year. As VRFocus learns more about Cyan’s VR plans we’ll keep you updated with any new announcements.
