BeFearless - Fear of Public Speaking

Samsung Canada Launches #BeFearless Campaign with Gear VR

Try for yourself with the two #BeFearless Apps.

Almost everyone will have a fear of something, from common anxieties such as spiders (Arachnophobia), to life controlling fears like agoraphobia (open spaces). But virtual reality (VR) developers have been working on experiences that can slowly acclimatise users to these phobias and today Samsung Canada has announced it’ll bring the #BeFearless initiative to Canada.

Using the Galaxy S7 and Gear VR head-mounted display (HMD), Samsung aims to help users conquer two of the most common fears – heights and public speaking. Developed in partnership with Facebook and Oculus, a four-week gamified VR experience has been designed to help users gradually face typical situations in a controlled environment.

So in the heights module, participants will experience levels that gradually increase in difficulty – from a glass elevator to a drive along a cliff. While the public speaking scenarios include casual conversations, job interviews, formal presentations, and even virtual karaoke.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to make a difference in our connected lives, we believe the immersive VR innovation behind #BeFearless can empower many of us to master our fears,” said Mark Childs, Chief Marketing Officer at Samsung Canada. “We hope this inspires Canadians to experience the global movement. Following its success in Europe, Russia and the United Arab Emirates, we’re proud to join eight other countries to help even more people realize their full potential.”

If you already own a Gear VR then you can have a go yourself. Head to the Oculus Store and download Samsung #BeFearless – Fear of Public Speaking or Fear of Heights to try for yourself.
