After 7 Days 88,000 PlayStation VR Users Have Experienced Resident Evil 7

The figures showcase some positive numbers for PSVR.

After all the build up and hype Capcom’s Resident Evil 7 biohazard has now been available for a week, and the developer has released stats showcasing how many people are playing. Released across several platforms, PlayStation VR (PSVR) got the virtual reality (VR) exclusive with just over 88,000 players trying the immersive option.

The figures come from Capcom’s ResidentEvil.net website, detailing a range a statistics from the franchise. Currently 929,030 players globally have played the horror title, with 88,072 activating the PlayStation VR option, which accounts for 9.48 percent of users. The former figure does cover the entire Resident Evil 7 community, including PC and Xbox One players, so there’s no way of knowing how many PlayStation 4 owners are using the headset, but the latter figure for PSVR gives a better indication of the user base as Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has yet to release any official figures.

These numbers do need to be taken with a pinch of salt however. The website does note that “All stats taken from players who have enabled the in-game data transmission option”, so the actual figures could be higher in terms of the number players.

While SIE has touted the headset’s 12 month exclusivity, Capcom hasn’t revealed which HMD’s may see a port during 2018. Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are the obvious choices, but by then other devices could be an option – FOVE 0 for example – and if so these initial numbers should shoot up.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of Resident Evil 7 biohazard, reporting back with any further updates.
