Updated: Dassault Automobiles Create Virtual Showrooms

Dassault Automobiles use VR to help customers choose new cars.

Dassault Systèmes, a 3D design software company, has announced that DS Automobiles will be utilising its Virtual Garage to create an immersive virtual reality (VR) experience for its vehicles called “DS Virtual Vision”.

DS Automobiles is using the Virtual Garage to showcase the DS 7 Crossback range of SUVs at the Geneva International Motor Show. Attendees can get to grips with the DS 7 Crossback La Première by donning a HTC Vive headset, which will allow the company to explore both the interior and exterior of the car. The VR version will be alongside the real-life car, allowing for a direct comparison.

After the motor show, DS Automobiles will roll out the virtual garage technology to its network of showrooms across Europe, allowing customers to choose and configure their car in VR, allowing them to pick options such as colour, trim and equipment.

“Effective vehicle sales and marketing help complete a circle that first began with ideation and design,” said Olivier Sappin, Vice President, Transportation & Mobility Industry, Dassault Systèmes. “The 3DEXPERIENCE platform lets automotive brands differentiate themselves and reinvent the event and showroom experiences by infusing gamification, virtual reality, interaction and discovery, as well as real-time consumer tastes and preferences, into the discovery and purchase processes, even before a vehicle is physically available.”

Dassault Aviation (which part owns Dassault Systèmes) has engaged with VR technologies before, such as using VR headsets combined with CAD drawings to aid new aircraft mechanics in learning how to maintain the Dassault Aviation line of business jets.

VRFocus will continue to bring you news on VR use in transport and commerce.

Updated: VRFocus previously wrote that Dassault Systèmes and DS Automobiles were part of the same company when they are not. DS is the car brand and Dassault Systèmes is a software company. VRFocus apologises for the error.
