As Close As You’ll Ever Be To a Super Saiyan with Dragonball Z VR app

Practice defeating you enemies with Ki blasts with upcoming Dragonball Z VR/AR app.

The franchise for Dragonball is huge. Starting with the 1984 manga Dragon Ball which became an anime series, and later Dragonball Z, Kai, Dragonball Super, not to mention all the, merchandise, videogames and other spin-offs. Not too surprising, then, that there will shortly be a Dragonball Z virtual reality (VR) app.

Dragonball Z was the introduction to Anime for many western fans, and as a result many people have held their wrists together and pretended to be able to shoot a deadly Ki blast at people they don’t like. A new VR app created by Japanese toy maker Mega House will allow fans to live a lifelong dream and fight alongside Goku against dangerous foes like Frieza by conjuring powerful Kamehameha blasts from their hands.

The VR experience comes in two parts, a cell-shaded VR adventure based on the show, and an augmented reality (AR) overlay for users to simulate destroying objects in the real world with energy blasts. In order for the gesture-control to work, Mega House are selling special hand trackers and a VR headset which holds a smartphone similar to a Gear VR or Google Cardboard.

The experience is titled BotsNew Characters VR Dragonball Z and the full kit including videogame app, headset and hand trackers will be released in Japan in June for 12,000 yen, which is roughly equivalent to $110 (USD). There is as of yet no word on when or if the app, headset and trackers will get a release in other regions.

VRFocus will bring you more news on the Dragonball Z VR app when it becomes available.
