Be A Giant Monster in Mighty Monster Mayhem

Rank 17 will be debuting the title at VRLA next week.

Have you ever been watching Godzilla or King Kong and sympathised with the monster? Ever wanted to just cause destruction on a city-wide scale? Well, upcoming title Mighty Monster Mayhem may just be the game you have been waiting for.

Developer Rank17 has just released a trailer detailing some of the things that can be expected for players once the game is released later this month. Mighty Monster Mayhem allows the player to take on the role of a giant monster and go on a rampage. Destroying buildings, climbing up skyscrapers, eating people, smashing the military; all are possible.

Being a virtual reality (VR) title, the player can really become one of these creatures, stepping into their oversized feet. There will be five monsters to choose from at launch. There is insect-like Ian Insectoid, demonic Tony the Oni, rock monster Ronald the Rock, Lovecraftian Cthulu Carl and traditional lizard monster Todd.

As is probably obvious from the monster names, the videogame is somewhat tongue-in-cheek and cartoonish. The monsters eat people to recover health, can throw cars, leap vast distances and there is even a multiplayer co-op mode planned so multiple monsters can wreak havoc on the unprepared city.

Mighty Monster Mayhem is compatible with HTC Vive and Oculus Rift with Touch and it supports a room-scale experience, so will require a large play area of at least 2m by 1.5m. It is not currently known exactly when it will launch, but it is expected sometime in April. No price point has yet been set.

Further details and updates can be found on the Steam page. You can view the official trailer below.

And for those heading to the VRLA event next week, they’ll be able to play Mighty Monster Mayhem for the first time. Rank17 will be hosting a competition pitting players against each other, with winner being able to choose either HTC Vive or Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics card as their prize.

VRFocus will bring you further updates on Mighty Monster Mayhem and other VR projects when they come in.
