Chinese Firm DPVR Launch New VR Headset

New E3 headset weighs only 297 grams.

Deepoon VR, also known as DPVR, are a Chinese manufacturing company who have just launched a new series of products, including a new head-mounted display (HMD) virtual reality device that they have named the E3.

Not to be confused with the gaming and electronics event, the E3 headset enables room-scale positioning using the Polaris system, which uses only six laser receivers, compared to the 32 required by the Lighthouse system. This makes the E3 very light, as only 297 grams. The headset can use three base station modes, support single, double or no base stations. Polaris was developed internally by DPVR.

The E3 headset supports eye-tracking and facial recognition, and has a resolution of up to 2560×1440 using an AMOLED soft-light screen licensed from Samsung. DPVR say that the E3 headset is compatible with mid-range computers to bring VR in reach of users on a budget.

Content from the Steam VR platform is available on the E3, as well as the content available on DPVR’s own internal platforms, 3Dbobo, DPVR All-in-One and DPVR Assistant. The headset comes equipped with a self-adjusting headband which the company says is ideal for users who wear glasses.

The device is available for pre-order from Chinese e-commerce platform JD.com.

VRFocus will bring you further news on the E3 and other new headsets as it becomes available.
