Room-Scale Parkour with The Deep End

Parkour platformer currently 10% off on Steam.

Parkour has been a feature in several videogames, notably Mirrors Edge and the Assassins Creed series. Now developer Red Line Reality are aiming to bring the parkour platforming experience to room-scale virtual reality (VR) with The Deep End.

The Deep End contains ten levels of running, jumping and climbing. The developers have aimed to make the movement fluid and immersive and have included types of movement not often seen in current VR titles, such as crawling, edge-grabbing and sliding. The only restriction is that you cannot fall into the pool.

The experience has support for haptic feedback and ‘running in place’ locomotion so users can get some cardio in while they play. There are over 5 hours of gameplay, all of which is designed to support room-scale, so requires a play area of 2m x 1.5m or more, and 360-degree tracking.

The developers do warn that users who experience vertigo or motion sickness should probably avoid the game at present due to the intensity of the motion effect.

The Deep End supports HTC Vive and Oculus Rift with Touch. The title is currently available on Steam with a 10% discount, which brings the price down to £17.09 (GBP) from the usual retail price of £18.99.

Further information can be found on the official Steam page.
