PlayStation VR’s Farpoint Debuts at Number 2 in UK Sales Chart

The title is the only VR dedicated experience on the list.

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE’s) virtual reality (VR) first-person shooter (FPS) Farpoint launched last Tuesday and has proven to be a highly popular purchase – in the UK – with the title debuting at number two in the UK sales charts.

It is currently the only VR experience to feature in the charts – Resident Evil 7 biohazard is VR compatible – and certainly shows the popularity of the head-mounted display (HMD) that’s it’s managed to achieve such a high ranking.

The achievement is even more impressive considering Farpoint was being generally sold alongside the new Aim controller, putting the overall cost at £75 GBP – although a DualShock 4 controller would still work. The only title to actually beat Farpoint was the new beat-em-up, Injustice 2, which launched for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

The last time VR videogame’s had a notable entry on the chart was for the launch of PlayStation VR back in October 2016, when PlayStation VR Worlds hit number 7, while Supermassive Games’ on-rail shooter Until Dawn: Rush of Blood also made it to number 9.

With PlayStation VR having achieved far greater hardware sales than either of its rivals, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, this trend will likely continue.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of PlayStation VR and Farpoint, reporting back with any further updates.
