MTG launch VR content app for Nordic region.

Modern Times Group (MTG) is primarily known as a TV broadcaster aimed at the Nordic and Baltic regions. The company has now launched a virtual reality (VR) content app for customers in its target region called Viareal.

Users of the app will be able to experience content such as the 360-degree video broadcast of the UEFA Champions League and the Nordic Rumble boxing match and E-sports event such as the DreamHack global eSports competition.

The app will also contain behind-the-scenes virtual tours of some of MTG’s popular show such as Paradise Hotel and original VR productions specifically for the platform such as Norwegian Love, NordicHaute Route and VR & Chill.

“MTG is constantly evolving to meet changing consumer behaviours – innovation is part of our DNA,” said MTG executive vice-president, Anders Jensen. “The combination of Viareal and MTG’s storytelling will take the viewer experience to the next level, and the UEFA Champions League final is a spectacular occasion to continue exploring this incredible technology.”

Viktor Ängmo, head of product, MTG Tech, described Viareal as: “A new dimension of entertainment open to everyone. Just imagine stepping into the UEFA Champions League final or using VR to get behind the scenes of your favourite TV show. The global VR story is just starting, and MTG aims to be a positive force in the ecosystem and to catalyse the Nordic region’s VR possibilities.”

Viareal is available via the Google Play Store and Apple App store. The developers plan to have Vireal available on the Oculus Store for Samsung Gear VR from 31st May 2017.
