Beasts of Balance Kickstarter Launched for New Edition and Battles Expansion

This will be the AR stacking game’s second Kickstarter.

Last year British game studio, Sensible Object, launched a successful Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign for its hybrid augmented reality (AR) stacking game, Beasts of Balance. Today the studio has started its second Kickstarter, expanding on the first release with new beasts and a new competitive gameplay mode known as ‘Battles’.

Beasts of Balance is a tower building game with an AR twist. Players are called Divine Creators and they have to carefully stack artefacts to reach high scores. The AR side comes in when deciding what objects to stack next to uncover new beasts. For example, stack an Octopus and a digital Octopus appears. If a Migrate Artefact is then used, the Octopus is turned into a land-dwelling Rocktopus.

With this new Kickstarter Sensible Object is adding three main things: Battles, three new Beasts, and Legendaries. Battles  gives players a new way to play with the 24 pieces in the core game, with two to three players each taking on the role of a Divine Creator of a single region: Land, Sea or Sky. The aim is to fill the region with powerful beasts while stealing and destroying those of opponents. The Battles expansion pack contains 16 AR Battle cards – containing the same NFC technology as the physical game pieces.

The three new beasts are sassy Flamingo, impossibly cute Chameleon and slightly dopey Angler Fish. When played, these new beasts can be crossed and evolved to create over 100 new digital hybrids.

While in the legendary category a new beast has been added in the form of a red dragon called MAGMAAARGH, who’s worth a lot of points but requires feeding with Star Energy.

Alex Fleetwood, founder and CEO of Sensible Object, said in a statement: “We had an incredible experience with Kickstarter last year. 18 months ago, we were a start-up team with nothing but a prototype. Thanks in large part to the support of the Kickstarter platform and its community, we were able to bring this ambitious, groundbreaking game to life. Having shipped the game on time to an amazing response, we’re ready to take things to the next level. Our players and backers have been hungry for new ways to play and new pieces to collect, and we can’t wait to share our work with them.”

The new Beasts of Balance Kickstarter launched this morning looking to raise $50,000 USD, and in a few hours has already achieved just over $31,000.
