CCP Games have announced the release date and price of its upcoming sport-based virtual reality (VR) title Sparc.
Fast-paced, energetic VR sport title Sparc has been described as ‘the future of e-sport’ and by others as ‘The Tennis of VR’. Sparc is a physical, skill-based videogame that will be headed to the PlayStation VR, where players will need to use the PlayStation Move controllers to aim, throw and dodge projectiles at other players whist inside a VR arena.
Baring some resemblance to real-world sports such as Lacrosse and Squash, the title is a very physical experience, in contrast to many other more laid-back VR experiences. Sparc includes several two-player modes where players can compete against friends, or engage in online matches with players from all over the world.
There are also single-player options and challenge modes as well as a challenge mode. Playing through the various game modes and arenas will allow players to unlock special customisation options so they can tailor their avatar to their own personal taste.
“With Sparc, we’ve set out to deliver an original sport for the current generation of VR hardware,” said Morgan Godat, executive producer at CCP Games’ Atlanta studio. “We want to create plasma-clad sporting champions in living rooms via the virtual court, where challengers will meet and compete with other players from around the world.”
Sparc will be released on to the PlayStation Store on Tuesday 29th August, 2017, priced at $29.99 (USD). PlayStation Plus members will be able to take advantage of a 20% discount if they pre-order the title through the PlayStation Store. Pre-orders are available now.
VRFocus will bring you further information on Sparc and CCP Games’ other VR projects as it becomes available.
