When it comes to entertainment there is, of course, a variety of media to take in. Film and television, books, comics, videogames – and virtual reality (VR) has at this point had a hand in emulating or showcasing them all. One area where it perhaps has not is the humble board game. Once a staple of family entertainment, the board game fell somewhat from popularity in the late 90’s and early 2000’s but since that time there’s been something of a resurgence for the medium and recent years have given rise to the board game café.
Now one developer is looking to bring the board game to VR (something we at VRFocus have discussed the possibility of before). They have created Quizmania, a trivia game that utilises a VR headet to provide a twist on the classic board game style by bringing interactive and observational elements to wherever you happen to be.
The board game, which is for 2 to 8 players is set to come with a cardboard-style head-mounted display (HMD) and will utilise an app available at both Google Play and Apple’s App Store. A Kickstarter for the project is set to launch next week on 3rd August 2017.
