The campaign for the upcoming launch of Star Wars: The Last Jedi officially begins punching this weekend, with ‘Force Friday II’ unveiling new Star Wars toys and products. As part of the event, marketing company Trigger has developed two Star Wars augmented reality (AR) consumer experiences.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi will hit cinemas on 15th December 2017, but fans can indulge in some unique Star Wars experiences from today by downloading the Star Wars app which has been updated with the ‘Find the Force’ feature. Officially kicking off in Sydney, Australia, fans worldwide will be able to partake in an AR scavenger hunt by locating and scanning Find The Force logos at participating retail locations and websites. A complete list of the participating retailers is available here.
Additionally, Star Wars’ Star Destroyers will bring a unique AR experience to 20 landmarks across the world, including Central Park, the Golden Gate Bridge, The Hollywood Sign, the Eiffel Tower and Niagara Falls. Fans who open the Star Wars app and launch Find the Force will see a giant Star Destroyer floating over their heads, as well as some TIE Fighters flying past. However, these AR scenes will only be available until 3rd September 2017.
The Star Wars franchise will receive a big AR push later this year with Lenovo’s Star Wars: Jedi Challenges set to launch for the Mirage head-mounted display (HMD) this holiday season, and undoubtedly much more to come. VRFocus will of course keep you updated with all the latest Star Wars applications and videogames for AR and VR.
