NVIDIA Unveil The GeForce GTX 1070 Ti

Designed to be “an overclocking monster”.

Earlier in the month VRFocus reported on comments by Richard Cameron, NVIDIA’s President in Brasil, who discussed the future of visual fidelity and how the development of graphics for videogames may develop and spin off in the future. When discussing the matter of virtual reality (VR) he was forthright in how long he thought the journey ahead still was.

“To have [photo realistic] virtual reality, you need 40 times more powerful GPUs.” He stated “It has many years yet to evolve, but the summit will be the point where you will put on a VR glasses, play and can not distinguish the real from the virtual.”

A common thread in the responses to that article from those in the community after the post went live was a general, if amused, “well, get on with it”. One week hence and whilst it’s still, of course, nowhere near that level yet, NVIDIA have revealed a new GPU so they are at least on their way.

The GPU in question is the previously rumoured GeForce GTX 1070 Ti, the latest in NVIDIA’s Pascal line-up.

Available from 2nd November 2017, it fills the gap between the already highly sought after GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 GPUs and will be hitting stores at a recommended retail price of $449 (USD), with the Founders Edition already available to pre-order on Nvidia.com with a limit of two per customer.

Besides the aforementioned Pascal GPU architecture, the GeForce GTX 1070 Ti features 2,432 cores, 8 GB of memory running at 8Gbps for a total bandwidth of 256 GB/s. Which, NVIDIA states, means it is delivering It delivers double the
performance of its much loved predecessor, the GeForce GTX 970.  The introduction of the 1070 Ti follows the announcement of the GTX 1080 Ti back in March.

“We designed the GeForce GTX 1070 Ti to be an overclocking monster.”  NVIDIA told VRFocus in an email, “With plenty of headroom for gamers to crank up the clock speeds. And our partners have built cards with thermals and power supplies that allow gamers to push performance way past stock specifications.”
