Giroptic Launch 360 Degree Video Calling Application

The Giroptic iO Camera received a big update at CES 2018.

Giroptic has today announced that, after months of testing and perfecting, a new 360 degree video calling service is now available in the iO360 app, compatible with the popular Giroptic iO 360 degree camera. Whether on a rooftop in New York, cruising on a lake or with family on the other side of the world, this new and free service immerses the call recipient in your environment in real-time.

Existing owners of the Giroptic iO camera can simply connect the device to their smartphone to trigger the iO360 app, then select “call” to launch a video call in 360 degrees. You can connect with friends and family via SMS, WhatsApp, e-mail, and other communication applications right from the iO360 app. All they have to do is click on the link they receive to join the conversation through any modern browser on mobile or desktop. The user will receive an alert as soon as your conversation partner has joined the call.

In addition to a browser-based experience, users can take a call within a virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD). Once your conversation partner connects, simply activate ‘VR mode’ and slide the smartphone into your HMD – Google Cardboard, Daydream, Homido VR2 and others are supported – to enjoy 360 degree livestreaming.

In addition to this update, Giroptic has simplified the Giroptic iO experience by integrating 360 degree video calling from the iO Ping app into the iO360 app. Now the iO360 app is the only companion you need for the Giroptic iO camera: for capturing photos and videos in 360 degrees, livestreaming and for conducting live video calls in 360 degrees.

The 360 degree video calling service is available for iOS right now and for Android users by the end of January 2018. The service is 100% free and requires only a WiFi or 4G connection. The Giroptic iO camera is available now, priced at $199 USD. VRFocus is present at CES 2018, Las Vegas, and will keep you updated with any further news from Giroptic
