Pimax Announce New Design for Controllers

Pimax users will be able to choose between trackpad and thumbstick controller options.

Pimax attracted a great deal of attention with its Kickstarter campaign that aimed to fund the creation of an 8K virtual reality (VR) headset. The crowdfunding campaign went well over its initial funding goal, and customers are keen to get their hands on the headsets. A question still remained, however, and that was regarding the design of the controllers.

Pimax worked closely with the Kickstarter community in attempting to decide what the final design of the controller should be, with some consumers preferring trackpads, while others wanted thumbsticks. The team decided to split the difference and provide a choice of designs.

The new design for the Pimax controller has now been revealed, with the aim of providing a more interactive VR experience. The new controller is compatible with Steam VR tracking 1.0 and 2.0 and comes with a palm-strap design that means users can fully open their hands without dropping the controller.

The Pimax team have worked to create a comfortable, ergonomic design for the controller, which they hope will make the controller feel like an extension of the body. The controller has sensors to track fingers and thumb movements for a better user experience.

To ensure the Pimax controller is compatible with popular platforms such as Steam VR and Oculus Home, the Pimax controller includes grip button, menu button, system button and trigger. Users can choose from two design options, thumbstick or trackpad.

Robin Weng, founder and chairman of Pimax VR said, “When developing the new Pimax 8K controller, we listened closely to the needs of our global community to develop an innovative new controller that enables a more comfortable and immersive VR experience. As we continue to innovate, we look forward to collaborating closely with our community.”
