zSpace Unveils its AR/VR Laptop Designed for Education

The laptop is designed to make immersive education open and collaborative.

zSpace, a firm that concentrates on using augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technology to enhance learning in  schools and colleges has announced it latest product, the zSpace Laptop.

The new laptop extends zSpace’s range of educational devices, allowing students to lift images from the screen and examine them in detail, gaining a deeper understanding of concepts by physically manipulating virtual simulations, from energy and motion to molecules and organisms.

“When students put on a VR headset and take a field trip or explore human anatomy, they are having an individual experience. It doesn’t encourage making connections, creativity or collaboration. zSpace was created specifically for learners, creating a shared AR/VR learning environment,” said Paul Kellenberger, CEO, zSpace in a statement. “Today’s launch of the zSpace Laptop takes that experience to the next level, moving our comfortable, interactive learning experience to the accessibility and affordability of the mobile platform.”

Supplied with a pair of Polarized Tracked Glasses, the zSpace Laptop combines a low-power, high performance AMD embedded accelerated processing unit (APU A9-9420) with AMD Embedded Radeon graphics LiquidVR technology. Other specs include a 256 GB SSD, 8 GB DDR4 RAM, a 13.5 inch 1920 x 1080 HD screen, and several built in applications:

  • zSpace Studio
  • zSpace Newton’s Park
  • zSpace Franklin’s Lab
  • zSpace Curie’s Elements
  • zSpace Euclid’s Shapes
  • zSpace Experiences

“The new zSpace laptop is going to be a game-changer,” said Aleigha Henderson-Rosser, Ed.D., director, instructional technology, Atlanta Public Schools, one of the first districts planning to introduce the zSpace Laptop to its students. “We introduced the zSpace virtual reality experience at the elementary, middle and high school levels three years ago.  Schools have supported their STEAM, core academic, and Career and Technical Education programs by integrating the all-in-one zSpace hardware and software solution.  Now we will continue to support these programs with the new zSpace Laptop. The laptop device will give us additional flexibility as we determine our implementation models through Atlanta Public Schools.”

Launched five years ago, students at more than 800 school districts, technical centers, medical schools and universities across the US learn with zSpace. As the company continues to rollout its technology to more institutions VRFocus will keep you updated.
