Digital Health Company Aaptiv Closes Series C Funding Extension

Bose Ventures joins with other strategic investors to support Bose AR platform developer.

Back in April, Aaptiv came to the attention of augmented reality (AR) when it came up with a somewhat different approach to AR thanks to a partnership with audio equipment company Bose. Instead of presenting a visual overlay over reality, Aaptive instead offers a layer of audio information. The company has now closed an extension of Series C funding, with strategic investment from Bose Ventures.

The funding round is the largest to date, and will see Bose Ventures, the Bose Corporation investment group, join with Aaptiv’s existing strategic investors, which includes Amazon Alexa Fund and Warner Music Group.

“Closing our Series C was a significant milestone for Aaptiv. We are honored to now be supported by Bose, a global leader and innovator in audio products and research for more than 50 years,” said Ethan Agarwal, founder and CEO of Aaptiv. “Aaptiv is committed to making audio the preferred format to consume digital fitness content simply because it’s a better member experience, and we are thrilled that Bose is helping us achieve that.”

Bose Ventures is aiming to support and work with companies who are creating apps, services and technologies for the Bose AR platform. Bose describe the platform as a service which combines data from embedded motion sensors along with GPS from an iOS or Android device in order to deliver an audible layer of information and experiences which can be delivered through wearable audio.

Aaptiv are planning on making over 2,500 workouts available through Bose AR supported devices, which will allow Aaptiv members to immerse themselves in audio content whilst still remaining aware of their surroundings.

“We are impressed with the work Aaptiv has done to change the way people exercise and train,” said Steve Romine, managing director, Bose Ventures. “Aaptiv’s audio-based workout offerings are a great fit with our vision for the Bose AR platform and provide an excellent opportunity to collaborate around the future of fitness.”
