There’s less than a week to go until Europe’s largest videogame event, Gamescom, opens its doors for another year. With virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) having made steady inroads into the event over previous years 2018 is looking no different, with PlayStation VR owners seeing confirmation of a new title, The Wizards by Carbon Studio.
The magical combat title launched in March for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, with Carbon Studio having previously mentioned the possibility of a PlayStation VR version but never fully confirming its development. Today, the studio has confirmed to VRFocus that PlayStation VR development actually began once the PC release had been completed, and now the team are ready to showcase the title at Gamescom 2018.
Currently, the team haven’t divulged how far along development is or whether it’ll include all the recent additions featured in the first anniversary update. The update was to celebrate the Early Access launch last year adding a user interface redesign, visual enhancements of spells and levels, along with the introduction of a new combat encounter on the first level of the title.
Like many VR titles featuring magic, The Wizards is a very hands-on affair with players having to cast powerful spells using only hand gestures. This aids that sense of immersion when casting and fighting enemies, making you feel like a powerful wizard once you’ve upgraded some of the spells.
VRFocus reviewed The Wizards for launch, giving it a respectable four stars, saying: “What Carbon Studio has done is combine its knowledge from debut VR title Alice VR and the months of Early Access development and distilled it into The Wizards. If you want to feel like an all-powerful sorcerer then The Wizards is up there with the best, an entertaining adventure that will make non-VR players jealous.”
Of course VRFocus will be at Gamescom 2018 to bring you the latest details from the event as well as how The Wizards plays on PlayStation VR.
