Disco Learning Media And VISYON Team Up To Develop New Educational AR App

The new app for the Georgia Public Broadcasting will bring the world of forestry into classrooms.

Disco Learning Media has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Georgia Public Broadcasting to develop a series of educational augmented reality (AR) experiences focused around forestry. Disco, a division of ProBility Media Corp, will provide instructional design expertise, while Barcelona-based immersive technology partner VISYON will support the AR product development.

Along with exploring new tools for digital storytelling the project is aiming to improve the effectiveness of digital tools provided to teachers and students by looking to adapt to the needs of different age group, distribution platforms and accessibility requirements. The project will be a large collbaration between the different parties but the end results should see positive feedback from the teachers and students that use the tools.

“We are thrilled to be working with GPB once again, and on this exciting endeavor,” says Juan Garcia, President of Disco. “GPB is one of the nation’s leaders in providing high quality, educational content and this project will significantly expand GPB’s presence in the digital learning landscape by bringing innovative augmented reality content to more classrooms.”

The new mobile application will give students the opportunity to gain new knowledge and insight into forestry by means of highly detailed models of plant and animal cells. The app will include a number of high quality videos along with quizzes to help provide a unique and immerse learning experience. By leveraging the immersive power of AR technology, the app has the potential to be a highly valued learning resource for its many users.

“This project is a great opportunity to let students explore while learning about forestry and it’s importance to Georgia,” says Andrew MacCartney, VP of Education and Digital Media for GPB. “Disco and VISYON’s respective talents in instructional storytelling and immersive technology will help GPB expose more students to this important world of forestry through engaging interactives. AR technology is an impressive tool to engage young minds, and we’re pleased to be working with both Disco and VISYON on the development and launch of this new app.”

The app was beta tested in July of this year with Georgia Public Broadcasting planning to roll out the full AR application in October, 2018. VRFocus will be sure to bring you all the latest on the app in the future so make sure to keep reading to stay up to date.
