As all the fun and games (literally, and figuratively) of this year’s Gamescom event in the German city of Cologne get underway, time ticks down to all manner of announcements. For both virtual reality (VR) and non-VR videogames these announcements aren’t just about the software, they’re about the hardware too. As one of the most awaited sessions is later today from NVIDIA.
NVIDIA’s leather jacket-wearing founder and CEO Jensen Huang is set to take to the stage once again to kick things off with the GeForce Gaming Event. There’s set to be plenty to interest people, including three new Quadro GTX graphics cards that were announced last week at SIGGRAPH and also teasing the reveal of a new graphic card in NVIDIA’s GeForce line.
Unfortunately for NVIDIA details of that card are beginning to leak. With VideoCardz, a website specialising in getting hardware details out revealing a photo (below) of the reference design of NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, this would be the “Founders Edition” variant of the GeForce RTX 2080. The dual-fan card is said by the website to be tonight’s “surprise” from Huang. As the product numbering suggests, the RTX 2080 will sit between the GeForce GTX 1080 and Quadro RTX 5000, while the 2080 Ti will sit between the GTX 1080 Ti and Quadro RTX 6000.
Across Friday and the weekend a whole slew of leaks – once more covered by VideoCardz – saw pictures appear of the GIGABYTE line’s 2080 Ti appear (again, pictured below) as well as:
- The three iterations from ASUS’ RTX series.
- ZOTAC GAMING’s version – which has a price on the Ti at $1199 (USD).
- The 2080’s from EVGA’s new XC Ultra series.
- Both versions of MSI’s GeForce RTX DUKE.
- And Palit GamingPro’s series too.
Just to put the cherry on the proverbial cake for NVIDIA, American hardware manufacturer PNY Technologies managed to leak the specifications of their XLR8 line of overclocked GeForce RTX 2080 and 2080 Ti’s themselves. Giving a valuable insight into what the official/standard capabilities should be.
